The 24th Illinois State Senate District has a new Senator and his name is Chris Nybo. He replaces Kirk Dillard who beat Nybo in a primary election a few years back. Full circle it seems.
Chris Nybo, R-Elmhurst, took the oath of office to replace Kirk Dillard of Hinsdale in the Illinois Senate's 24th District on Wednesday in Lombard.
"I'm so happy and so proud that Chris Nybo will be my senator in Springfield," Dillard said.
A group of Illinois elected officials, including state Senate GOP Leader Christine Radogno, joined Nybo supporters at the Sunken Garden Memorial at Lombard Common Park for the swearing in ceremony.
"I was delighted to step down early so that the district will have a seamless transition," said Dillard, who won the 2012 primary against Nybo.
Nybo's appointment comes after Dillard resigned from the state Senate on Sunday in order to accept his appointment as chairman of the Regional Transportation Authority.
"Kirk Dillard understands how to work with people. He has the history to know the issues that he's going to be facing. … We will miss him very, very much," Radogno said.
She then welcomed Nybo, who once helped with one of her campaigns, ringing doorbells, for the state Senate.
"[Nybo] is a guy who has had a long commitment to public service," Radogno said.
